The Three Lionesses of England had been on a run of 30 matches without defeat since Sarina Wiegman took charge in September 2021. Although in her 31st game in charge, England lost for the first time under the Dutch. The loss was a 2-0 friendly defeat to Australia in April 2023.

Five days before that loss, England had celebrated their 30th consecutive game without defeat under Wiegman. It was the final match of the CONMEBOL – UEFA Finalissima, where the English team defeated their Brazilian counterparts 4-2 on penalties after the game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Across Wiegman’s 30-game undefeated run, England netted an amazing 138 goals at a staggering frequency of 4.6 goals per game. Wiegman’s team has also witnessed a disciplined and well-organized defensive set-up, which explains part of their success on the field.

The English women’s national football team recorded 20 clean sheets in those 30 matches. In addition, they had never conceded more than once in a match under the 58-year-old (this includes games that have gone to extra time), not until that loss to Australia in the 31st match.

During Wiegman’s tenure, England has consistently created scoring opportunities. They average 24.03 shots per match, with 9.93 on target. This has led to 26 victories and only four draws in their last 30 games, including matches decided in extra time or penalties. England’s attacking prowess under Wiegman’s guidance has been instrumental in their success as European champions.
