Over the years, amazing and talented footballers have emerged from both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Some of the players who have played for these countries have proven very useful for both their national teams and their club side.

Robbie Keane

The 40-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool star has the most appearances for the Irish national team, with 146 appearances, and is also the all-time top scorer for the team, having scored a total of 68 goals.

Liam Brady

The now 65-year-old played for Juventus and Inter Milan during his playing years. He also played for Arsenal and was named the North London club’s player of the season in three successive seasons – between 1977 and 1979.

George Best

Featuring for more than 14 clubs during his playing career, the attacking midfielder was with Premier League giants Manchester United for 11 years, appearing 470 times for them.

He will always be in the conversation of some of the best dribblers ever.

Denis Irwin

Irwin won an unprecedented 19 titles during his time. The 55-year-old former defender will always be regarded as one of the finest football players in the history of Ireland.

Roy Keane

Roy was a successful midfielder especially while playing club football with Manchester United. He won an impressive seven league trophies with the Red Devils and proved consistently that he was one of the greatest and finest Irish greatest players.
