This huge system also consists of directors, producers, choreographers, makeup artists, camera crews, and many other people. One small but essential player of this complex system that works closely with actors is their stunt doubles. They are the ones pulling off all the life-risking stunts that make you go, “Woah, how did they do that!?” And today, we are finally celebrating them.

But, some celebrities are bringing their stunt doubles into the limelight by posting pictures with their stunt doubles. And we have to say, it’s about time they’re recognized! So, here are some fantastic photos of Hollywood actors with their stunt doubles!

A stunt double doesn’t really need to look exactly like the actor they’re performing the stunts for. That could be the case for other actors, but that’s definitely not the case for Joe Manganiello. Him and his stunt double look like twins.

Ian McKellen

For those who don’t know which one is McKellen, he’s the one standing in the middle. The guy on the left is his stunt double for all the fight scenes. The guy on the right is his size double, who filled in for the scenes when Gandalf interacted with dwarfs and hobbits to make him look tall.

Zoe Saldana

Producers always have the stunt doubles sport wigs and outfits similar to the actor they’re filling in for so they look just like them. But, high-budget movies have various methods to ensure that their stunt doubles look like the actor’s twins.

For instance, when Zoe Saldana started playing the role of Gamora in Marvel movies, she needed multiple stunt doubles. Her character had many action scenes, so she scored two stunt doubles, and they all looked eerily similar when they wore the masks.

Cobie Smulders

Cobie Smulders is known for playing the role of Robin in the hit show How I Met Your Mother. But, she’s also a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as she joined the cast of the Marvel show SHIELD. Do you notice how her stunt double looks just like her!?

Although her role as Robin didn’t include many stunts, her role in SHIELD has a plethora of action scenes. So, she has a permanent stunt double instead of having various look-alikes. From the image, we can tell that they get along well!

Ken Stott

When you look at the image below, doesn’t it look like you are looking at the mirrored image of the same guy? Although it feels like it, that’s not the situation. In reality, it’s just an image of Ken Stott and his stunt double from the set of Lord of the Rings.

Also, it was easy for the producers to cast a stunt double for Ken Stott. Their only challenge was to find a stunt double of the same height. When they did, they made him wear a wig and a fake beard. The prosthetics team also helped make special nose prosthetics for both of them!

Reese Witherspoon

The stunt doubles of Zoe Saldana and Ken Stott had to use prosthetics to look like the actors. But, Reese Witherspoon and her body double didn’t need prosthetics for it. As you can see in the image, they look weirdly similar.

Witherspoon isn’t really famous for portraying action roles, but she always counts on Marilee Presley, her long-time body double. They have been working together for almost 20 years now, and they are pretty good friends outside of her career as well!

Jenna Fisher

Are there any The Office fans in the house? If you have seen the hit show, you must know that there aren’t many action scenes in it. But, there were some scenes that required the help of stunt doubles. It didn’t stop Jenna Fisher from thanking her lookalike.

In one episode of The Office, the characters were having a picnic, and there was a lot happening in this scene. Unfortunately, Jenna couldn’t be a part of those scenes because of an injury, and that’s when her stunt double-stepped in!

While watching action movies, or any movies for that reason, we never realize that there are stunt doubles involved. But, we do know one thing, which is that the actors can’t risk having an injury. If they get hurt, it could hinder the production schedule.

Harrison Ford has seemingly brought many iconic characters to life, like Indiana Jones. His character was involved in many action scenes in the Indiana Jones movies. So, Ford didn’t have one but two stunt doubles to help him get through them. 

Sebastian Stan

Casting directors can easily find a stunt double, but there are times when they can’t find one that looks like the actor. But, we’re in 2022, and technology largely helps casting directors make do with any stunt double as long as the physique is similar.

Have you watched the Netflix sitcom Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt? Ellie Kemper plays Kimmy Schmidt in the sitcom, and the show is simply hilarious. She needed a stunt double in certain scenes. To be precise, she had two stunt doubles.

Honestly, the show didn’t have that many action scenes, yet, she had two body doubles. These body doubles were necessary for the scenes where Kimm Schmidt had to start tripping while on her feet. They all look so identical!

Gal Gadot

Gal Gadot is the Wonder Woman of Hollywood. She needs no introduction, as she’s one of the leading actresses in many huge action movies. Since she’s an action star, she needs stunt doubles for these intense scenes. This photo is from the production Wonder Woman. 

According to the casting directors, finding a body double for Gal Gadot was pretty tricky. She’s tall, 5’10” to be precise, so they had to find a stunt double the same height. Fortunately, they found Christiaan Bettridge, who is the same height and has a similar look!

Scarlett Johansson

If you’ve seen Gal Gadot in DC action movies, you must have seen Scarlett Johansson in Marvel action movies. She has been a part of many popular films, even in her early acting days. She achieved global recognition after she joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Black Widow.

Kit Harington

Kit Harington is known for playing the lead role of Jon Snow in HBO’s Game of Thrones. He certainly needed a stunt double for shooting particular scenes of the show. There is a lot of violence in the famous series.

Maisie Williams

Maisie Williams also had a lead role in Game of Thrones. She played the role of Arya Stark, and the character is quite the warrior meaning she’s a part of many fighting scenes for which she needed a stunt double. The producers had to find a really skilled person to fill the part.

Her stunt double, Kristina Baskett, is quite older than Maisie Williams, who’s 25 now. But, the producers decided to cast her because she resembles Maisie, and they can’t cast an underage stunt double to perform the action scenes on Maisie’s behalf.

Charlize Theron

After her portrayal of American serial killer Aileen Wuornos, Charlize Theron gained global recognition. Her portrayal also won her an Oscar. Today, she’s one of the best action stars in Hollywood. She has been a part of various action movies since then.

A body double is someone whose body is used (not the face) for an actor or actress. They’re mainly used for nudity scenes when the actor doesn’t want to do a nude scene. As you can see in this image, Angela Bassett is posing with her body double.

Nicholas Cage

Since we have come this far, you might have noticed that getting a stunt double isn’t the easiest thing for some actors, and it has a lot to do with their body type. For instance, finding a stunt double for Dwayne Johnson would be a complicated process.

Similarly, it was pretty tricky finding a stunt double for Nicholas Cage, and that has nothing to do with his physique. It had a lot to do with his facial characteristics. Fortunately, Cage’s character wore a helmet during the fight scenes, so they managed accordingly.

Charlotte Kirk

As we have mentioned earlier, sometimes, the face of a stunt double won’t resemble that of the actor. But, they need to have a similar body type for them to fool us. So, they only need to wear similar makeup and outfits to match.

Earlier, we talked about how a stunt double doesn’t really need to look like the actor they’re filling in for. Maybe that was important back in the day, but these days, with CGI, you can alter the face of a stunt double to make them look similar.

That’s pretty much what happened with Zachary Levi during the shooting of the DC movie Shazam. His stunt double had a similar physique and height, but their faces weren’t so similar. So, the CGI experts altered things a bit with the help of those black spots.

In this photo, you can pretty much understand why Tara was cast as a stunt double for Aubrey Plaza. They both look so similar. And, yes. The person photobombing these two while they were posing is none other than Zac Efron.

The Space Jam team recently released their second installment, a few years after Michael Jordan’s movie. In it, Cedric Joe played a crucial role, and he also had to perform some basketball moves while shooting the film. That was the role’s demand.

It’s okay if some of you assumed that actors don’t interact much with their body doubles, but that’s wrong. They spend a lot of time on their sets with their body doubles, so it’s pretty standard for them to become friends.
