The various editions of the World Cup have left us with many remarkable memories that will be almost impossible to forget. Here is a compilation of some of the greatest World Cup moments in the history of football.

Diego Maradona (1986)

Best remembered for the ‘hand of God’ incident where Maradona jumped and punched the ball into the net – a goal that stood – and his fantastic solo goal, as Argentina narrowly edged England 2-1 in the last eight. Albiceleste later claimed the tournament.

Pele (in 1958)

This competition announced the 17-year-old to the world as he helped the Selecao to their first World Cup title. Pele wowed the world in games against France and Sweden, scoring twice against the Swedes in the final.

Andres Iniesta (2010)

It was a very tight affair at the FIFA World Cup final between Spain and the Netherlands.

Both teams outmuscled each other and could not break the deadlock during the normal time, forcing extra time. It was in the 116th minute that the unthinkable happened. An assist from Francesc Fabregas was met by Iniesta, who shot past Maarten Stekelenburg for the match-winner.

Dennis Bergkamp (1998)

During the quarterfinals of the 1998 FIFA World Cup hosted by France, Dennis Bergkamp netted what was a match-winning goal in the very last minute of the game.

He controlled a long-range pass beautifully and displaced Roberto Ayala with his second touch before firing past the goalkeeper.
